MESSAGE from Chairman PITB

Punjab IT Board (PITB) is currently implementing and planning a wide range of projects that will provide the base for the development of a vibrant IT sector in Punjab. PITB's role is to assist the IT Industry in creating a reliable and sustainable IT infrastructure along with the development of efficient and competitive human resources.

PITB is making rapid progress in putting in place the necessary infrastructure for the development of a thriving IT sector in Punjab and is creating benchmarks for the development of similar projects across Pakistan. Over the last few years, several multinationals have invested in Punjab including Microsoft, IBM, DELL, Intel, HP, NCR, Cisco and Oracle.

There are several IT investment opportunities in Punjab for foreign investors. The opportunities include the Software Technology Park (Ferozepur Road Lahore), Punjab Internet City, Call Centers, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Medical and Legal Transcriptions, Satellite HUBS (VSAT) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

Under the Public-Private Partnership model, the Punjab Government has been providing subsidized land as equity to foreign investors with a strong business plan and a solid financial model to build IT infrastructure.

The vision of Punjab IT Board is to promote economic growth in the IT sector through e-governance policies, IT education, and creation of Software Technology Parks.

PITB plans to implement this vision by developing state-of-the-art infrastructure and human capital, which will enable Punjab to achieve its immense IT potential. We are also focusing on leveraging global best practices and benchmarks to develop and implement a citizen-centric e-governance framework through constructive engagement with the private sector.

In the next three to five years, the IT and industrial sector of Punjab will present a completely different picture. It will be based on leading edge technologies to create jobs and career opportunities, as well as open up avenues for entrepreneurship for the people of Punjab and Pakistan.
